The goal of this project was to create an original charity and design its branding. My charity, called SpacePlate, is a way to deliver food to those in our country who are hungry, even though the "best-by" or "sell-by" dates on the label have passed. According to Food Safety News, the date labels come from the manufacturers and are really for stocking purposes. The "best by" date is not an expiration date, nor does it necessarily mean that the food safety declines after that date. My charity would collect the food that grocers and other stores no longer want on their shelves and deliver it to our food bank to be delivered to those in need. Thus, we would be tackling food waste and hunger problems simultaneously.
